Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 4 garlic cloves, finely minced
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 pound sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into ½ inch cubes
- 2 (15 ounce) cans Muir Glen fire roasted crushed tomatoes Hands down the best. Sweet, smoky, and a little charred.
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed

Sweet potatoes are dense, so a sharp chef's knife makes all the difference. Slice a thin piece off one side so it sits flat and won't roll, then cut into planks, sticks, and cubes. Keep them close to the same size so they all turn tender at the same time.
Instructions
Start the aromatics
Heat the avocado oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until tender. Add the garlic and keep cooking until fragrant.
Brown the turkey
Move the onion and garlic to a plate and add the ground turkey to the pot. Cook for 6 to 7 minutes, until it's no longer pink. Mix the chili powder, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, cayenne, salt, and pepper, then add it to the turkey and cook for 1 to 2 minutes so the spices wake up.
Bring it together
Return the onion and garlic to the pot along with the sweet potatoes, crushed tomatoes, and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
Finish with beans
Stir in the black beans, cover, and simmer another 10 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are fork tender.
